Polypropylene fiber (PP fiber) is an important synthetic fiber with a wide range of application backgrounds and important significance. ‌

Background information
Polypropylene fiber, also known as polypropylene (PP), is a synthetic fiber made from propylene, a byproduct of petroleum refining, through polymerization. Its raw material source is abundant, the production process is relatively simple, and the product price is relatively low. The density of polypropylene fiber is 0.91g/cm³, which is the smallest density among the five major synthetic fibers. It has significant properties such as light weight, warmth retention, and hydrophobicity. In addition, polypropylene fiber has excellent acid and alkali resistance and heat aging resistance. After appropriate modification, it can produce excellent weather-resistant, heat-resistant, acid-resistant and alkali-resistant polypropylene fiber.

Application field
Building materials: Polypropylene fiber is widely used in concrete, which can significantly improve the crack resistance, permeability resistance, abrasion resistance, frost resistance of mortar/concrete and improve the workability of concrete. Its micro-reinforcement effect can maintain the integrity of the structure, extend the service life of the project and reduce maintenance costs. ‌Textile industry‌: Polypropylene fiber also has important applications in the textile industry. Polypropylene long fibers are divided into ordinary long fibers and fine denier long fibers. Fine denier long fibers have good luster, soft feel and good drape, and are suitable for high-end sportswear, T-shirts and other high-end clothing products. In addition, polypropylene short fibers are often blended with cotton to make polypropylene cotton fine cloth, bed sheets, etc. ‌Other fields‌: Polypropylene fibers are also used to make geotextiles, carpets, surgical gowns, baby diapers, sanitary napkin covering materials, oil-absorbing materials, filter materials, thermal insulation materials, sound insulation materials, etc. ‌Production process and technical status ‌The production process of polypropylene fibers mainly includes porous, low-speed, continuous short spinning processes. In recent years, with the development of metallocene catalysts and hydrogen adjustment technology, the relative molecular weight and processing properties of polypropylene resins have been better controlled, and multi-specification polypropylene resin products with narrow distribution and adjustable melting point can be produced. In addition, the development of solution electrospinning and melt electrospinning technology has made the industrial production of ultra-fine denier polypropylene fibers possible, although it still faces problems such as harmful solvents and spinning efficiency.
