The history of steel fiber can be traced back to 200 BC, when people used livestock hair or plant straw to reinforce livestock pens. The research and application of steel fiber concrete appeared around 1900, and was first used in 1940 to reinforce airport runways with straight steel fibers. In 1960, steel wire steel fiber was introduced. In 1970, Bekaert invented steel fibers with hooks at both ends to improve the bond strength with concrete. In 1974, Bekaert invented the water-soluble adhesive bonded rows of Jamix® steel wire fibers 3D to improve the dispersion of steel fibers.

Development of steel fiber
Early application: In 200 BC, people used livestock hair or plant straw to reinforce livestock pens.

Modern application start: Around 1900, the research and application of steel fiber concrete began, and was first used in 1940 to reinforce airport runways with straight steel fibers.
‌Technological innovation‌: In 1960, steel wire steel fiber was introduced; in 1970, Bekaert invented steel fiber with hooks at both ends; in 1974, Bekaert invented Jamix® steel wire fiber 3D, which is bonded in rows with water-soluble glue.
‌Standardization and large-scale production‌: In the 1970s, my country began to study metal fibers. Since the 1980s, steel fibers have been widely used in many concrete projects such as roads, bridges, and tunnels.
Application areas of steel fibers
Steel fibers are widely used in infrastructure projects such as industrial floors, subways, tunnels, structural components, cement products, and water conservancy projects. Due to the presence of steel fibers, the bending resistance and fatigue resistance of concrete are significantly improved, giving it good ductility and the ability to control cracks, so it is widely used in key supporting materials.
